Старший помощник капитана на судах-газовозах ARC 7 LNG, Yamal project
A. Cargo Operations (LNG-Specific)
Oversees all LNG cargo handling:
Loading/Discharging: Manages cooling-down, loading, warming-up, and stripping procedures.
Boil-off Gas (BOG) Management: Optimizes BOG re-liquefaction or combustion in Arctic conditions.
Tank Atmosphere Control: Ensures inert gas/purging systems are functional.
Monitors cargo conditions:
Pressure, temperature (-162°C), LNG composition (methane, N2, CO2 content).
Cargo tank integrity (membrane/Prismatic tank checks).
Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfers: Supervises Arctic STS ops (if applicable).
B. Ice-Class & Arctic Navigation Support
Hull & Ice Management:
Monitors ice impacts via Hull Stress Monitoring System (HSMS).
Coordinates with icebreakers during convoy operations.
Deck Safety: Prevents ice accumulation on deck/mooring areas.
C. Safety & Emergency Response
LNG-Specific Emergencies:
Leak containment (vapor dispersion, ignition control).
Cryogenic spill response (specialized PPE/procedures).
Arctic Survival: Ensures polar-grade lifesaving equipment (sub-zero lifeboats, immersion suits).
2. Cargo Document Control (Critical for LNG Carriers)
Responsible for maintaining and verifying all cargo-related documentation, ensuring compliance with:
IGC Code (International Gas Carrier Code)
Polar Code (Arctic-specific regulations)
MARPOL, SOLAS, SIGTTO/OCIMF guidelines
Pre-Port Documentation: Prepares for terminal inspections (SIGTTO/OCIMF checklists).
SIRE/CDI Inspections: Ensures cargo docs are audit-ready (e.g., COW procedures, BOG records).
Bunker Logs: Tracks LNG fuel consumption (if dual-fuel propulsion).
Notice of Readiness (NOR) – Arctic-Specific Considerations
Officially declares the ship’s readiness to load/discharge cargo, triggering laytime calculations.
C/O’s Responsibilities:
Drafting the NOR:
Verifies the vessel is technically ready (tanks inerted, cargo systems checked, pre-cooling completed).
Confirms ice-class compliance (ARC7 suitability for Arctic port conditions).
Documents weather/ice delays (common in Yamal due to freezing temps/icebreaker dependencies).
Submission:
Delivers NOR to terminal/agent/charterer via Master’s approval.
Retains copies with timestamp/proof of delivery (critical for demurrage claims).
Arctic Delays: NOR may be contested due to icebreaker unavailability or extreme weather.
Terminal Requirements: Some LNG terminals (e.g., Sabetta) have strict pre-arrival checklists.
2. Bill of Lading (B/L) – LNG-Specific Controls
Data Verification:
Cross-checks LNG quantity (via CTS, corrected for temperature/pressure).
Validates cargo quality (methane content, impurities – from lab reports).
Notes pre-loading conditions.
Drafting Support:
Prepares the B/L draft for Master’s review/signature.
Ensures compliance with LNG industry standards.
Dispute Prevention:
Documents any cargo anomalies (e.g., Boil-off Gas % deviations).
Attaches independent surveyor reports (common for Yamal shipments).
Ice-Class Clause: Some B/Ls include Arctic transit warranties.
3. Letter of Indemnity (LOI) – Risk Mitigation
Request Handling:
Receives LOI request from charterer/shipper (e.g., to discharge without original B/L).
Reviews LOI wording (typically templated by the shipowner/charter party).
Risk Assessment:
Flags cargo discrepancies (e.g., short loading, unverified quality) to the Master.
Ensures LOI covers Arctic-specific risks (ice delays, BOG losses).
Record-Keeping:
Files LOI with cargo docs for future claims/audits.
Never accept LOIs without owner’s/legal team’s approval.
3. Deck Management & Maintenance
Ice-Ready Deck Crew: Supervises cold-weather maintenance (anti-icing, hydraulic systems).
Cargo Equipment Checks:
Cargo pumps, valves, vapor barriers.
Emergency shutdown (ESD) systems.
А также: Контроль погрузки/разгрузки СПГ, проверка документов (NOR, SOF, B/L).
