The primary function of work is to perform the comprehensive testing of relay protection terminals. In order to provide the full range of tests a RTDS simulator is used. My responsibilities include: ▪ the creation of the virtual model of a network using the software interface RSCAD; ▪ the configuration of terminals of relay protection for the particular test; ▪ testing and report generation. ▪ I have already performed tests of: relay protection of distribution networks (overcurrent , distance, earth fault, double line-to-ground fault, differential protections). ▪ According to the results of my work I prepared some additional documents outlining the estimation of benefits and an increase in efficiency, which can be gained due to the implementation of the new algorithms. Thus the development and implementation of the modern earth fault protection logic is taken into consideration in the department now. ▪ My current task is to estimate the measurement precision of the following parameters: alternative current and voltage; active, reactive and total power; frequency of input signals; and power factor by the relay protection terminal. For this investigation, Omicron CMC 256 plus and digital multimeter Agilent 34410 are used; in order to estimate an additional error caused by the influence of the temperature cold-heat chamber used. In order to improve characteristics of the device, I have offered the following methods: 1) calibration of measuring module to eliminate systematic error; 2) implementation of the Butterworth filter and the median averaging to improve the accuracy of frequency measurement; 3) implementation of new algorithms with the variable interval of integration, allowing to determine the required values in the frequency range from 45 to 55 Hz. At the moment, most of my suggestions have already been carried out and verified, and repeated tests have confirmed an increase in accuracy.

▪ I was an assistant in relay protection and automation systems projects. My responsibilities were to update equipment database and to correct projects according to the changes in the implemented equipment and etc. The equipment of such companies as : ABB, Siemens, Schneider-electric, Areva were used in projects. ▪ I have also taken part in the project of Breakers Control Automation. I was responsible for hooking up all control automation systems of breakers to an operational DC grid. ▪ I participated in projects on reconstruction of systems of operative DC. My responsibilities included choosing capacity of DC batteries, fuses and cross section of cable lines. Also for this project I chose the most economically rational decision and contacted with numerous manufacturing companies, namely OEZ, Hoppecke, ABB, Jean Muller. ▪ During these project works I have acquired experience with such software as AutoCAD, Eplan p8, GuDCSets, GuDCChoice (calculation of currents of short circuit in the DC network and mapping selectivity).

The fundamental goal of this internship was to get the understanding of working principles of project company as a whole and the automation department in particular. ▪ I learned how to work with project documents and took part in document maintenance. I also became acquainted with some real relay protection projects in order to improve the understanding of study materials.
