Coil Services (now WSG `Well-Services Group'), Emmen, The Netherlands I was invited to join Coil Services as an Electronics Engineering Technician, providing design, service and maintenance for a fleet of Well Services and Nitrogen & Pipeline Services equipment for an independent service provider to the Oil and Gas Industry. The role involved all aspects of Electrical, Electronic and Instrumentation engineering, covering equipment and systems such as: * Coiled Tubing * Fluid Pumps * Nitrogen Converters * Capillary Coil * Slickline. * Data acquisition, software * Networks ; * Telecoms and communications protocols (RS232, 485, Modbus, CANBus) ; * Calibration * Fire and Gas safety systems * H2S and O2 sensors. As a small team we were required to remain flexible and prioritise a very changeable work pattern and ensuring that we were readily available for call-outs should the necessity arise, which it frequently did. Achievements: IntelleCT - (Intelligent Coiled Tubing) slickline conductor pumped inside coil for RT-SRO, Logging and Perforating. Winterising several units for deployment to Siberia.

HydraRig specialises in the manufacture of Coiled Tubing and Nitrogen Converter equipment for the global Oil and Gas industry, particularly the market sectors of Intervention and Well stimulation, plus land-based companies specialising in industrial pressure and leak testing. I was responsible for the supervision of the electrical department within the production division for assembly and assisted Engineering with the design, followed by the Service department for commissioning, start-ups, FATs (base or customer's facility) and then breakdowns, repairs, retrofits, global overhauls and readiness for urgent call-outs. The equipment conformed to ATEX and/or NORSOK comprising all types of Ex protection for Zone 1 and 2: * Engine management (Detroit, Caterpillar, Volvo) ; * control and * safety shutdown systems ; * Purged and air-conditioned control cabins ; * Fire and Gas systems, installation third party (Crowcon) and self-design ; * Data acquisition ; * Instrumentation ; * Computer systems comprising various sensor input channels.

The company is a high technology Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Company devoted to the design, manufacture and service on a worldwide client base. I was involved with: Enclosure and panel design, Wiring for various locations and purposes; from irrigation control to process control systems and hazardous area installations. Such projects required Initial briefs, Costing, Project management, As-built drawings, Electrical and electronic design schematics, Selection and purchasing, Assembly, Installation, Testing FAT/ SAT Commissioning (HQ and the customer’s location). I gained experience of PLC’s and electrical control system design and realisation using Allen Bradley and Omron. Also, I was a member of the team responsible for the analogue and digital PCB design and manufacture for various electronic systems, and Assembly, maintenance and calibration of the sensors for the Neptune CPT system (Subsea geophysical survey).
