A big departure for me in terms of the type of properties I have had experience working for until that time. The Lodge at Skylonda was something very different and unique. Small staff of only 56 people at the time, and even smaller number of rooms, 16. Small restaurant, with very gifted chef, healthy food, incredibly closely knitted staff members, and true extension of our families. My responsibility was helping and assist the general manager of the establishment Ms. Lisa Henry manage the day to day operations, and to assure the highest level of guest comfort and satisfaction, as well as to ensure smooth staff operations, verios departments supervision and management like guest services, house keeping, spa services, hiking activities, restaurant management, and communications. scheduling and professional staff training. The Lodge at Skylonda was very exclusive property, favored by executives of large corporations based in San Francisco and technology companies in San Francisco - San Jose Silicon Valley. Do to the property being sold to wealthy investor and consequently at later date turned in to a private residence, I have posted a review of the property and it services from San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, as well from one of the numerous visitor, that for the most part wished to remain unknown and private. Due to a high personnel recommendations from the general manager Mr. John Ford of my previous job at Stanford park hotel, I was hired as Guest Services manager at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows ( the hotel was called Miramar Sheraton Hotel & Bungalows, and it was under different ownership that it is at this time . Under my supervision was front desk services, bell boy services, and valet parking services. This was the biggest hotel and the first 5 star hotel I was working for. My professional ditties were the same as in Stanford Park hotel, plus the additional services of Valet Parking. Much bigger staff under my management made my job that much more entertaining and challenging. Working for such a big organization made me see the hospitality industry business in a new light, in terms of people management, and several fold increase in customer traffic and service demands.

Staff Scheduling, working on guest requests, complains and requirements. Helped the Director of Catering Services / Food and Beverage, manage business events held in the hotel, as well as weddings and manage inventories for the hotel's minibars etc. From my point of view, in my many years of experience looking back at it, that was one of the best hotels I ever worked for. Incredibly competent management, superbly picked staff, very good team play and guest services, thanks in big part to the general manager at the time Mr. John Ford.

Bell Boy / Front Desk Services
This was my introduction to the hospitality industry. I was hired after a short interview by the HR department of Holiday Inn at that time ( now Crown Plaza). The requirements for the job were fairly simple, such as polite and sincere communications with guests in satisfactory English, willing to help, good team player. I must say that I truly enjoyed my daily interactions with our guests, meeting different people from across the country and the world, also I should say here that not less of a joy for me was my work relations with the people I was working with, including my managers. Several months later there was an opening at the front desk department, and I was offered the opportunity to train and move to that job. I still harbor fond memories of my first hotel jobs and the people I worked with.
