The aim of this consulting project, accomplished in the team of 5 people, was to define the System Requirements Specifications for the ERP update in Kurikka Timber, to create Enterprise Architecture Views of supply processes in the organization and to select an optimal ERP solution from the market.

My tasks in Borealis were related mostly to the operations planning of a polyethylene plant located in Porvoo. This included various things, from material flow planning to the organization of document and data interchange. I was responsible for the delivery arrangements, adjusting the customer orders to the production volumes, and supporting the customer service team. After three months there, I learned a lot of things about the plastics industry in general and about various supply chain activities.

During my internship in Caterpillar I have been working on Visibility & Metrics Reporting project. It was closely connected with GT Nexus - a visibility tool, which enables to trace almost unlimited amount of shipments and download the results in Excel format. My main task was to make the metrics creation process automated so that the updated data from GT Nexus could be easily analyzed. Big volumes of data excluded any manual operations with information. I successfully created several tools for different types of shipments analysis and configured the scheduled reports in GT Nexus for each tool. Also I wrote a manual for Russian dealers describing how to use GT Nexus. The instrument for automated finding of data mistakes and omissions was created then. Finally, I analyzed cost savings from projects, which Caterpillar has implemented recently. It was a real pleasure to join this company: I learned a lot in Caterpillar and despite the limited amount of time there could finish a project that was important for the company.

During this two-months practical training I received my first experience in a real company. The specialization of Technolux is importing of foundry equipment and materials; because of the small size of a company I was able to observe many aspects of the company's life. Almost family relationships inside also supported the process of learning, I could ask any kinds of questions and learn specific niceties of this business. My main tasks were: design of logistics solutions, translation of documents and acquaintance with purchasing and selling systems. Also I helped the company at Moscow Litmash Trade Fair, e.g. to interpret negotiations. Overall, that practical training was pretty useful and the skills gained there helped me a lot in the future.
