English teacher
Develop curriculum and teach primary grades 1 and 2. It is a private/international school with campuses around Vietnam. There is a curriculum based on the national curriculum, but I create all of my own lessons on an outcomes based approach and little support from the textbook. I've worked with the school to make positive changes to their extensive reading program and assessments - to motivate students to read and also provide teachers with the necessary criteria to assess the comprehension and development of their student's reading skill in English

Lecturer/Instructor
A Pearson EdExcel program. I was teaching a class of anywhere between 20-40 students ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I designed the curriculum and exam materials with a local Myanmar teacher. After school, I provided teacher training in English for the teaching assistants. My goal with this position was to learn how to better teach younger students and relate to them, understand their needs, and develop classroom management skills for children of this age group.

English Instructor
Teaching university students in an extra-curricular class for 7 periods a day using the communicative method and focus on form. The contract length was 3 months long (Japanese semesters are Sept-Dec and April-July) Class sizes ranged from 3 to 20 undergraduate students. One day a week was dedicated to TOEIC exam preparation. I enjoyed building a repertoire with the students and watching their development. It gave me a good entry into the cultural differences and what is expected of a teacher (and the student) in Japan.

About me

My name is Adam, I'm 34 and American. Why am I on a Russian job website? I liked working in Russia, I enjoyed the variety of clients that I haven't had elsewhere and the development of good teacher-student relationships with them. When I am asked, "Why are you a teacher?" I usually say, "Well, most of the people in my family are teachers." This is true, but I really enjoy watching my students develop which is something I felt like I got to see more of in Russia than elsewhere. I've worked a span of jobs in Asia - from primary to university - 'gaining experience' as I call it. I thought that I'd become very mono-methodological and without experience to contrast with other experiences to become a better teacher and look at things in a different way. I realized a few things. One, I like the students in Russia and working with the students there. The students of all ages are relatively well disciplined, motivated, with reasonable expectations and goals. Two, creating new content and activities for classes to keep them engaging while focusing on useful language, which is learned using methods which cut-down on teacher time and focus on student time is immensely beneficial. Especially in cultures where students are used to 'rote learning' and being told what to do, exercising student autonomy in the form of student-led projects to roleplaying created scenarios increases the retention of language and everyday communicative use/style that people want as academic students or business clients. However, all people and cultures will often interpret or follow instructions in their own way, so this is where the experiences that I've had give me a large reservoir of knowledge (and experience) to draw upon for classes. To make it simple, I got ideas on how to teach and got to watch a lot of different teachers. During the way, I obtained an MA in TESOL. This shows my professionalism, dedication, and specific knowledge of teaching English to speakers of other languages. I've studied methodologies, case studies, the influence of nonverbal communication, and the difficulties of intercultural communication coupled with the respect for other cultures and simply teaching English. Developing a good repertoire and communication with students is paramount along with the creation and use of appropriate and interesting material. I have experience with different LMS systems for student/class management, making detailed and interactive powerpoints, and adopting new tools to supplement my teaching such as ClassDojo and Kahoot. My classes are designed for the course/syllabus that I have to use or that I have prepared in a advanced, so that what is to be learnt by the students and the curriculum with goals and expectations are set at the beginning. Now, I am trying to work academic articles and research on topics involving Applied Linguistics. Recently, I presented at the VietTESOL conference. In the future, I am working to publish a journal article and present at more industry conferences to raise my own profile and learn from other teachers in the field. I'd love to come back to Moscow, if the opportunity is there. So please, feel free to reach out to me. Different opportunities are always interesting to me. This includes different grades, schools, administration, the designing of courses and extra-curricular activities. Thanks, Adam
